I'm not Amish, but my technology policy might be. It's why I wear plain clothing, so people aren't surprised when I tell them I don't have a phone or use most of the internet.

Plain Modesty

Car

No car ownership. Cars encourage sprawl and the separation of communities, and privilege anyone who are not disabled, too old, or too young.

No mobile phone. Use a desk phone in a secluded space for emergencies. Keep a list of phone numbers on you, in a pocket notepad. Check phone messages once or twice a day.

Keep internet-connected devicees in a public area, with people present.

Use the internet sparingly. Do not use most web services or apps. Use email, Snikket messaging, and Mastodon social media.

Block distractions, including videos, indecent material, and most social media.

Don't watch TV. Radio for music is OK.
