Hard Drive Blues

  1. Ate well.
  2. Performed backups.
  3. Got emoji and syntax highlighting working on website.

I'm having the hard drive blues right now. My server's drive is 100% full and my main file storage drive has a currupt filesystem. I ran xfs_repair on it, and it moved all my video to lost+found. Luckily, most of my video is on my server, but that's my only copy.

My media directory takes up a lot of space, 415 GB.

I need to get a bigger internal hard drive for my server. I need to get three external hard drives to replace my storage drive and its backup drives. It's going to take a while to save up the money to get these things, but I will have to do it, if I am to keep our Jellyfin server working.

The Plan

Server:

  1. Get a 1 TB SSD for the server.
  2. Install Fedora Server.
  3. Set up Jellyfin.

Data:

  1. Get one 2 TB external hard drive and two 8 TB external drives.
  2. Encrypt an XFS filesystem on the 1 TB drive.
  3. Back up the main drive to the other two drives with Borg Backup.

On the bright side, I had a decent breakfast: Oatmeal with strawberry preserves. Dinner was chili with crackers. Drinks were Bubly and tea. Not a bad day of consumption. Chatted online until bedtime.

Got up at 08:30 but napped until 11:30.

Copied my media directory to a KCLUG friend's server so it's backed up at least somewhere.

Ate several Planters mixed nuts.

Someone on SDF Public Access UNIX System asked me a question about Yiddish.

Snacked on some saltine crackers.

Ate chili with saltine crackers. Biscuits and gravy sounds really good for later.

Watched M*A*S*H.

Added Solarized colors to my site's CSS. Changed the fonts to IBM Plex, though I have yet to serve the font files.

20:45. Went upstairs. Listened to aNONradio.

22:22. Tried finding utilities for tagging files under GNU/Linux, but found it only with KDE.

23:00. Read about how big a backup drive should be: Four times the size of the data you're backing up.
