Q: Are you Mennonite?
A: No, I'm Jewish. I just wear a beard and suspenders to signal to people that I don't drive a car or use common technology.
Q: Are you vegan?
A: I eat a vegan diet but still wear animals.
Q: Why do you wear animals?
A: Judaism requires many non-food animal products in daily life. The Zero Waste movement frowns on un-natural materials, as they are made from plastic, don't last very long, and have to be discarded regularly.
Q: Why don't you have a car?
A: Cars are too expensive, and my eyesight isn't good enough for me to get a driver's license, even with an eye prescription, so I don't have or drive a car. I am also a supporter of Strong Towns and dislike many of the drawbacks of cars.
Q: Why don't you use mobile devices?
A: They're tracking and surveillance devices, and every service you use wants you to install their malicious, proprietary app.
Q: Why don't you use YouTube?
A: YouTube, like most Google disservices, is plastered with ads and tracks users relentlessly just as badly as Facebook does. In an emergency, I will use a downloader program to access a video, but I will not just view random videos people send me. Consider joining PeerTube if you need to publish a video online.
Q: Why don't you use Discord?
A: Discord deletes accounts without warning and collects a lot of user information.
Q: Why don't you use Facebook?
A: Everybody knows Facebook is bad for many reasons I don't need to go into. Why are you used by Facebook?
Q: Why don't you use WhatsApp?
A: It's owned by Facebook/Meta. I don't trust that company at all. Incidentally, WhatsApp does indeed collect a lot of user information just like Facebook does.
Q: Why don't you use Signal?
A: Signal requires a mobile device to use.
