Language

I am thinking of modifying my langauge slightly.

Profanity

Avoid profanity. This will make you less likely to slip up and say curse words in situations where they are not appropriate.

Direct replacements for curse words are sometimes possible.

Paganism

Avoid references to pagan gods, particularly in the names of the days of the week. The Quakers traditionally did this, so it's possible to do.

The same should be done with the names of the months. Instead of June, say Sixth Month. The Bible does this for the Hebrew calendar months.

Sacred Names

Avoid writing any Names of our Father in Heaven, for the Torah says not to erase G-d's name (Deut. 12:3-4).

Say JW or J's Witnesses, because the J word is a (somewhat inaccurate) form of G-d's Name

Technology

For the operating system, call it GNU/Linux or just use the distibution name in isolation. This recognizes the distinct GNU character of these operating systems, and gives credit to the GNU Project. A Linux without a GNU is a very foreign operating system; you would not call it "real GNU/Linux" for sure.

For variations of Android, don't call them ROMs but call them Android distributions or just operating systems. Calling them ROMs diminishes the amount of work people actually put into them.

Don't call them phones. Call them mobile devices or just mobiles. A phone is a device meant for calling people, like an old landline telephone or a flip phone. Mobile devices, on the other hand, are full-fledged computers, and should be treated as such. They should not be treated as merely a telephone.

Don't say open source because this wording is used by people who want to undermine user freedom. Say free software instead.
