Modern desktop environments and applications such as Dino expect your notifications to be saved in a drawer where they can be reviewed.

GNOME notifications area

In MATE, these notifications are transient and just fade away before you can review them. Let’s fix that.

First, install the needed package.

$ sudo apt install ayatana-indicator-notifications

Then, go to Trisquel > System > Control Center and under Look and Feel click on Indicators.

Click Enable this indicator on login.

Log out, and log back in. You should now see a mailbox icon in your panel where your notifications are stored.
